Beyond the Tales

Beyond the tales

 Timespan: 01/01/2022 – 31/12/2023

Donor: European Union / National Agency ERASMUS+ Programme Slovenia

Call: ERASMUS-YOUTH-2022-CB

Budget: 193.845,00 EUR

Applicant: Humanitas (Slovenia)

Partners: Umanotera (Slovenia), Sudwind (Austria), LDA Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), CEPS (Spain)

Global problems are not isolated, they are interdependent, intertwined, complex, and it is important to address them in this way, including addressing and cooperating at the international level. The project is a response to the disconnection between climate change and migration among young people, building on the results of the survey, which suggest that young people do not currently associate climate change and migration to a great extent, but are aware of their connection in relation to the future.

Overall Goal is to target youth workers with knowledge and information aimed at building and strengthening competences and critical understanding of climate migration.

Specific Objectives:

  • to promote and strengthen the networking and solidarity between youth workers and young people and to foster understanding, solidarity, and encourage activation for a climate and social justice society;
  • implementation of a communication plan, through which we will communicate the project contents to the general public and stimulate public discourse on climate migration, a currently overlooked topic;
  • to increase the organizational capacity of the NGO sector in the partner countries through the dissemination of the acquired organizational skills across the networks of the partner organizations;
  • to support and promote the new EU initiative “Climate Education Coalition” in the fight against climate change.

As stated above, the approach to the project will be highly intersectional, which means that in addressing the project’s themes of two urgent global problems (migration and climate change), we take into account different aspects, categories of problems (the impact of gender, ethnic groups and the link to anti-racism, social class). This will be ensured, among other things, by the diverse background of the participating organizations, coming from different countries. Each organization brings its own expertise to the project in the form of new methods, content and cultural background. Another advantage of international cooperation is that in addressing migration and climate change in a holistic way, it is necessary to take into account both local and global contexts and to learn about them first-hand (not to be too abstract), which is not possible in a partnership based on the participation of partners from one country.

As a complement and follow-up to other projects of some partners, the project also builds on the diverse experiences of the different participating organizations, providing mutual learning and insights into and transfer of each other’s methodologies, as well as a good basis for future projects and primary work of the partner organizations.
